Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation Review & Swatches

Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation is the brand’s first liquid foundation, joining the much-loved Vital Skin Foundation Stick and the sheer Vital Complexion Drops. After wearing it for the last few weeks, I can completely understand why it is already getting so much attention.

There are 30 shades, multiple undertones and a £65 price tag, so there’s quite a lot to talk about when it comes to this new launch.I’ve been putting it through its paces to see how it applies, how much coverage it gives, what the finish is like, how it performs on mature skin and, importantly, how well it lasts throughout the day.

So, here is my full Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation review, including the shades, coverage, finish, application, longevity and how I think it compares with Victoria Beckham Beauty.

I’ll be adding more photographs once my expected shade, L1, arrives, so stay tuned for those.

What is Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation?

Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation is Westman Atelier’s first liquid foundation.

The brand already has the much-loved Vital Skin Foundation Stick, as well as Vital Complexion Drops, which are much sheerer and have more of a lightweight tinted-oil texture. This sits somewhere else entirely.

It is described by Westman Atelier as a weightless, medium-coverage foundation that blurs and smooths the complexion while giving the skin a natural, hydrated finish. It is designed to feel like second skin rather than a traditional layer of foundation.

There are 30 shades, with different undertones across the range. The shades are grouped into categories including fair, light, medium, tan, deep and rich, with neutral, warm and cool variations.

Key Ingredients

Suprême Skin Bio-Complex – contains Oligopeptide-1, a peptide duo and Vitamin B3/niacinamide to smooth, brighten and firm the appearance of the skin.

Peptides – including Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1.

Sodium Hyaluronate – to hydrate the skin

Amino Acid Powders – to help blur, mattify and absorb excess oil without creating dryness.

Sunflower, Rosemary & Seaweed Extracts – to help restore and soothe the skin barrier

Westman Atelier has also incorporated what it calls Exosome Technology to deliver its skincare actives.

The texture

The texture is the thing that has really got me. It is so beautiful. It has this gorgeous serum-meets-gel consistency that feels incredibly nourishing as you apply it and literally melts into the skin.

The texture of Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation is absolutely beautiful. It doesn’t leave that slightly tacky feeling you can sometimes get with a hydrating foundation. Instead, my skin feels juicy, plump and incredibly comfortable, while somehow looking beautifully blurred. And not blurred in a silicone-y, overly perfected way. It just looks like really good skin.

It’s fluid enough to spread incredibly easily, but it has enough body to feel nourishing rather than watery. As you work it into the skin, it literally melts in.

Your skin doesn’t feel covered in foundation. It feels juicy and plump. There’s no sticky layer sitting on top of the skin and it doesn’t have that very obvious silicone slip that some blurring foundations have.

Instead, it just feels incredibly comfortable. It really does feel like luxury skincare.

How much foundation do you need?

Not much. One of the things that immediately struck me is just how little you need. Westman Atelier recommends one pump, and I completely agree. One pump is enough to cover my entire face and gives a beautiful, even layer of coverage.

You can, of course, build it. I’ve tested it with a second pump and it builds beautifully towards full coverage without becoming thick or mask-like.

So if you want something more substantial for an evening out, you can absolutely get there. But for everyday wear, one pump is more than enough for me.

And I think that’s worth knowing when you’re looking at the £65 price tag because you really aren’t going to need to slather it on.

Application

I’ve used it with my usual foundation brush and with my fingers, and both work beautifully. The foundation spreads so beautifully that I don’t think you need any special technique either.

Westman Atelier recommends one pump, applied to the centre of the face and blended outwards, and that’s pretty much exactly how I’ve been using it.

The coverage

I’d call this medium, buildable coverage. One pump gives a really lovely, even medium coverage and makes my complexion look beautifully perfected without looking like I’m wearing loads of foundation.

Add another layer and you can take it much further. What I love is that despite being capable of giving you much more coverage, it doesn’t suddenly start feeling heavy.

It remains incredibly thin and flexible on the skin. It’s almost like a skin tint in terms of how it feels, but it performs like a proper foundation.

You could use this as a day to day foundation, but you could also wear it for a full-on night out and trust it to give you the coverage and longevity you need.

Before and After Photos

And because I think you can sometimes talk about foundation until the cows come home without actually showing what it does, here is my before and after.

This is one pump of Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation, applied as I normally would, with no heavy layering.

My Shade

As I have said, I haven’t quite found my perfect shade yet, but having checked out photos, I am pretty certain it will be L1. More on that below and stay tuned for an update.

The finish

The finish is just so good. Westman Atelier describes it as a natural, hydrated finish, and I think that’s a really good description. I would say it sits somewhere around a soft natural/soft matte finish, but with something that a lot of matte foundations don’t have – a real look of hydration.

It isn’t super glowy. It isn’t particularly dewy. There aren’t obvious particles of shimmer sitting on the skin. But it doesn’t look dry either. Instead, it has this lovely, soft, supple quality that makes the skin look really well hydrated. It’s that “you’ve done really good skincare” finish.

Does it look good on mature skin?

Yes, absolutely. This is one of the things I was most interested in when I started testing it. So many foundations that promise longevity and a matte finish can end up looking dehydrated on mature skin.

You get the longevity, but you lose the life in the skin. I don’t find that happens with this. It remains soft and flexible. It never looks chalky or suddenly turn dry. And it doesn’t seem to settle into every little line and or sign of texture.

Instead, it gives me that lovely blurred effect while still allowing the skin to look like skin. For me, this is exactly the sort of finish I want from a foundation now.

Does it work for oily skin?

I think it could. Although I wouldn’t describe this as an old-school matte foundation, it isn’t greasy or overly dewy either. The amino acid powders are specifically designed to help blur, mattify and absorb excess oil without creating dryness.

So if you’ve previously avoided Westman Atelier bases because you thought they might be too dewy, I would definitely have a look at this one.

I actually think one of the clever things about the formula is how versatile it is. Dry skin gets the comfort and hydration. Oily skin gets the natural, non-greasy finish. Mature skin gets the flexibility and softness. At least, that’s how it performs on my skin.

How comfortable is it?

Very comfortable! Honestly, this feels like luxury skincare on the face. It doesn’t feel makeup-y. It doesn’t feel mask-like. It doesn’t even feel like I’ve put a layer of foundation over my skin. It feels like I’ve done my skincare and my skin is just… really nice.

That comfort has been one of my favourite things about wearing it over the past few weeks.

How long does Westman Atelier Foundation last?

The longevity is very, very good. I’ve tested it both with powder and without powder and it stays looking smooth and even for hours. It doesn’t go patchy or crack and it doesn’t seem to break apart as the day goes on. And most importantly for me, it maintains that lovely smooth finish.

For a foundation that feels this lightweight and comfortable, I think the lasting power is brilliant.

The Packaging

I absolutely love the glass bottle and pump packaging, and the attention to detail with the branding. It’s all a very luxurious experience.

There are 30 shades in the range, with multiple undertones, which I think is a really good shade selection for Westman Atelier.

I was sent L5, M1 and M2:

None of those is quite right for me, although I can make them work.

I’m waiting for L1 and L2, and I have a feeling that L1 is going to be my perfect match.

So, the photographs you’ll see in this post are with the shades I currently have.

I will be updating this review as soon as L1 arrives with proper photographs of the foundation on my skin in what I hope will be my perfect shade. Because honestly, I think that’s going to be the bit that really brings this review to life.

Stay tuned.

Westman Atelier vs Victoria Beckham Foundation

I know this is going to be one of the questions, so let’s talk about it. I’ve been wearing both and, while there are similarities, they are quite a bit different.

For me, the Victoria Beckham Beauty foundation has a slightly more serum-like feel and a dewier finish. The Westman Atelier feels slightly more gel-like to me and has a more natural finish.

I also think the Westman Atelier is a little more versatile across different skin types. If you find the Victoria Beckham foundation a little too dewy, particularly if you have oily skin, I think you may prefer Westman Atelier.

The Westman Atelier also gives me a slightly more blurred look. So if you’re choosing between the two, I’d say:

Victoria Beckham: dewier, more luminous, slightly more serum-like.

Westman Atelier: more natural, slightly more blurred, more hydrated-soft-matte and, in my opinion, more versatile across skin types.

They’re both beautiful foundations.

Is Westman Atelier Suprême Bio-Complex Liquid Foundation worth £65?

For me, yes. And I’m saying that despite the fact that I don’t even have my perfect shade yet. That tells you quite a lot, I think. The texture is gorgeous. The coverage is buildable. The finish is beautiful. The longevity is excellent. It feels incredibly comfortable. And it gives the skin that elusive “I just have really good skin” look.

It’s not just another liquid foundation. There is something about the texture that makes it feel genuinely different. So, if £65 is an amount you’re comfortable spending on a foundation, I would absolutely recommend it. It definitely delivers on its promises.

Now I just need my L1 to arrive…

It has a natural, hydrated finish. On my skin, I’d describe it as soft and natural with a subtle soft-matte quality rather than a dewy finish.

For me, yes. At £65 it is definitely a luxury foundation, but the texture, finish, comfort, coverage and longevity make it worth the price tag.

Is Westman Atelier foundation better than Victoria Beckham foundation?

I wouldn’t say one is universally better. Victoria Beckham is dewier and more luminous, while I find Westman Atelier has a more natural, softly blurred finish and feels slightly more versatile across different skin types. For me, Westman Atelier is the better choice when I want a natural, hydrated complexion that isn’t overly dewy.
