The 5 Best Foot Masks of 2025, According to Dermatologists

Pounding the pavement, hitting the trail, climbing the stairs—our feet truly take a beating. Thankfully, Mother Nature did us a solid and designed our steppers to be resilient. “The skin on the feet is the thickest on the body, which is necessary to protect the feet from everyday trauma from walking,” Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, tells SELF. “In response to chronic friction and rubbing, the skin may become extremely rough, known as a callus.”

Everyday wear and tear and changes in the weather (cold or hot) could mean your feet need a little extra TLC—that’s when you might reach for a pumice stone or a nice, thick cream. In other cases, you may need to bring in stronger reinforcements. Enter: the foot mask.

“Foot masks are designed to hydrate and soften the skin, and, in some cases, offer exfoliation,” Dr. Zeichner says. Which mask you choose will depend on your needs: Calluses respond best to exfoliating masks, while dry feet and cracked heels will benefit from something more moisturizing. To help you shop smarter, we turned to Dr. Zeichner and other derms for advice on where to find the best foot masks and pro tips on how to use them—get their insights (and browse their top picks) below.

What to look for in a foot mask

If it’s not crystal clear from the label whether a mask is more moisturizing or exfoliating, check the ingredient list. “Exfoliants like salicylic acid and lactic acid gently lift off layers of dead skin,” Joyce Park, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at Skin Refinery, tells SELF. “Shea butter, urea, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin help feet retain moisture and soften thick skin.”

As for how often you should use a foot mask, that depends on the type you’re using, Dr. Park says. “If it’s an exfoliating peel, then once a month,” she says. “If it’s more of a hydrating foot mask, then it’s safe to use weekly.”

Ah, the foot mask that launched a thousand gross, yet oddly satisfying videos. Calluses are no match for Baby Foot’s peel. “It contains natural fruit acids (like lactic and glycolic acids) that gently exfoliate dead skin, leaving feet soft and smooth,” Jenny Liu, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Minnesota, tells SELF. “It’s popular for visibly peeling away rough layers over a few days, which can be satisfying and effective for very dry or calloused feet.”
